Also new is Durden's Red Kale.  We have a limited supply  of our local red kale.   It is beautiful and would liven up any salad.  It is also excellent to add to delicious berry smoothie.  It looks and taste wonderful.    We will feature our organic red kale this weekend on a demonstration making our very berry smoothies.  Free samples will be available from 11 am through the afternoon on Saturday.

What's for Breakfast?

Posted by Barbara Williams on 3/24/2018 to Backfourty

Breakfast is an important meal and one we should not miss.  To help make it easier we have put together a few  meal kits featuring our local eggs.

We carry eggs from Meme's Eggs and Poultry and Cal-Maine Eggs.  Both are located around Seminole, Alabama and are within thirty minutes of Floria Bama Farms.

Our Farmers Breakfast Skillets take some prep but  are easy to make.   The kits include local  vegetables, cheese curds and Bill-E's Bacon .  We also offer kits without meat. These ingredients make waking up a little bit easier they are so delicious.  Start with these fresh ingredients and begin creating your own flavorful dishes or use our recipe ideas included.

Coming soon, local strawberries from Bengston Farms in Summerdale, Alabama. Florida pole beans are also starting to arrive.   Matt Carter out of Cantonment is bringing us some  sweet spring onions. on Monday.  Blueberries will start arriving  out of Plant City within the next few weeks.  Also due on Saturday, quail eggs from Meme's.

We are getting a bumper crop of local kale, collard greens, cabbage, tomatoes and mushrooms.  Honey Tangerines are winding down this will be the last week.   We have a consistent supply on micro greens.  We also have  green bells and mini sweep peppers from Pero Farms and plenty of  sweet potatoes and watermelon radishes.

Easter Sunday is next weekend and we  will be closed on the retail in honor of the special day.  We are open everyday leading up to Easter and we hope you come out and see us.  Enjoy this beautiful spring weather.

Get Your Greens On

Posted by Barbara J. Williams on 3/16/2018 to Backfourty
Get your green on...St. Patricks Day is this Saturday.  Luckily we have plenty of green on hand to share.  Green cabbage, green beans, green kale, broccoli, bibb lettuce, bell peppers, and collards all Florida and Alabama grown.

Did you know that we proudly supply Mcguires Iris Pub with their green cabbage which they use for the very popular  Irish dish, "Corned Beef and Cabbage"?  It is a favorite. Mcguries prepares over 1500 pounds of cabbage for the day when everyone gets to be Irish.

Come and see us this Satureday for some good greens.  Also if you enjoy eating some good corned beef and cabbage think about McGuires.

Easter is Near

The spring is  an Eggcellent time  to visit  Meme's Eggs and Poultry.  Meme and  her daughter, Karen,  provide us with beautiful and tasty yard eggs.   Did you know that different breeds of chickens lay different color eggs. For example , Leghorn chickens lay white eggs while Orpington's lay brown eggs and Ameraucana produce blue eggs.   Meme has all these brreds plus she has ducks and quail.  We carry duck and quail eggs from Meme as well,   If you are ever interested in acquiring chickens to raise Meme's is the place to go.   She is down Highway 90 in Seminole, Alabama.  Excactly 10 miles past Florida and Alabama State line.    This time of year Meme has baby goats as well.  So cute and sweet.

Florida Sweet Onions and a Big Jerk You Could Love

Posted by Barbara Williams on 3/2/2018 to Backfourty
Happy Friday!  Just in today our first of the season Florida Sweet Onions!!  They taste like a cross between a spring onion and a Vidalia.  They have large flat bulb and  nice green tops. They are good to eat  raw on a burger or grilled.

I have fallen in love with a BIG JERK.  Big Jerk Soda that is made right here in Pensacola by a husband and wife team, Eaton and Ryan Oelscharger.  Big Jerk makes a variety of ginger sodas.  They use fresh and local ingredients like, cane sugar,  ginger, turmeric, lemons and limes.  They are very refreshing.  Big Jerk could help keep the doctor at bay in a very pleasant way.  They are in a class all their own.   I hope you will come by and try one.

We are also featuring fresh from Florida Orchid Island Juices.  These are made with Indian River Citrus, and other Florida Grown fruits and vegetables.  My favorite is strawberry lemonade, and Sandy loves the orange beet and carrot ginger.  Their number one seller is orange juice made with Hamlin and Valencia oranges.  We carry several variety's all lightly pasteurized.  You get that fresh squeezed flavor and 21 day extended shelf life.

The rest of this weeks local and regional fruits and vegetables:
